White House Proves That Fencing Improves Security

White House Fencing Security

According to a proposal submitted to the National Capitol Planning Commission, the Secret Service is adding a second layer of steel spikes to the top of the White House fence.

In America, a burglary occurs every 10 seconds. The chances of being a victim of a property crime – burglary, larceny, theft, motor vehicle theft, arson, shoplifting, and vandalism – right here in Maryland are a staggering 1 in 38. So, you have to ask yourself a very important question. “Is my home or business as safe as it could be?

White House Proves That Fencing Improves Security

A fence is your first line of defense against criminal activity, providing a physical barrier between you and the outside world. A couple key additions, such as anti-climb spikes, can make that barrier even more formidable. And that is exactly what the Secret Service recently set out to do.

According to a proposal submitted to the National Capitol Planning Commission, the Secret Service is adding a second layer of steel spikes to the top of the White House fence. The 1/2-inch long steel “pencil point” spikes, which will be added to the north and south sides of the White House grounds, will protrude outward, making it increasingly more difficult for would-be intruders to scale the fence.

The Secret Service began researching new ways to beef up White House security after a Texas man was able to climb the fence and run deep into the executive mansion this past September. Since this incident, there have been several additional attempts to scale the fence. Most recently in April, a California man was arrested after successfully scaling the fence and running onto the White House lawn.

More extensive fencing redesigns are expected in the near future. Until then, the additional pencil point spikes will be tasked with the very important task of protecting the president.

It it’s good enough for the president…
